Open Thread: Future open threads? Characters who demonstrate ideals

(By lonespark, sort of)

This was in part a response to learning that Javert and Jean Valjean, two characters who spend Les Misérables were based on the same real life person, and also in part in response to it being noted that they reflect the D&D alignments of Lawful Neutral and Neutral Good respectively

Lonespark:

I am thinking we could have open threads discussing pairs of characters who represent opposite ends of spectra, or what similar people could be under varied circumstances, etc. Like pragmatic vs. idealistic, valuing individuals over groups, etc. I guess it doesn’t have to be pairs, but it’s most often two or three characters, who are epic when they fight, or work together or have relationships…

Prompt for this thread:

What are some pairs/triads/whatevers of characters that we could discuss in this way in future open threads?

Or, I suppose, what do you think of Lonespark’s ideas that we use some open threads in the future to do this?

I’ve been forgetting to mention that there’s no off topic for an open thread. The prompt is to stimulate, not restrict, conversation. Anyway, this is off prompt. Just a heads up:

The computer I am currently on died yesterday. Water got into it, I didn’t realize, I turned it on, zappiness was had, files were corrupted, and it looked like I’d never be able to start it enough to fix the files because the files that got corrupted were that vital to the very beginning of booting the computer.

It has now been resurrected but I have no idea how long that will last, what else might have been damaged, and the computer was never stable to begin with (there are few things more annoying than an “All data was lost” crash taking place less than a second before you try to save.)

If the computer doesn’t stay fixed, becomes more unstable, or any number of other things, my ability to comment may become sporadic or emergency only.

    So just a warning.

Zuko, Aang, Katara, Azula. Mix and match to make pairs.

Yes, good. Froborr has the best ideas.

Of course I require the inclusion of the Three in N. K. Jemisin’s The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. In that case it is literally “you used to be part of one soul/substance/thing,” which is pretty common in myth.

    Odin and Loki.
    Also Sigyn, Loki, and Angrboda.

    Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

Next Gen and Deep Space 9? Ish?

Oh, BBC! Robin Hood and Guy of Gisborne, at least according to the creators. And also Guy/Robin/Marian or Robin/Marian/Guy, however you want them arranged.

Triangles are a really common theme that can be awesome. The reductive thing seems to be to just make it a “love triangle” between people, which I generally hate. But if it’s more of a triangle of loyalty/different values or character traits then it can be awesome, and it can include one or more love interests; it’s just that the love interests are part of the whole package… I’ve heard it’s like that in the Hunger Games series.

Also I had an idea for an open thread: Scenes (could be characters, quotes, etc.) you love in movies (or other works of art) that you dislike.
