Writer Workshop for July 16th, 2014

(Posted by chris the cynic)

Those of you who also frequent Ana Mardoll’s Ramblings will find this somewhat familiar.  Here, as there, it was requested that there be a regular post to talk about writing projects (and other artwork-creation). Thus this post exists.

What are you working on? How are you feeling about it? What thoughts and/or snippets would you like to share? How does your activism work into your art? What tropes are you hoping to employ and/or avoid? Are there any questions you’d like to ask or frustrations you’d like to vent?  Writing workshop below!

I’m trying to start a new book, because my last/current/in-work project about teen pregnancy has stalled a bit because the state of abortion in this country is so depressing to me right now. (I still wanna finish it, I’m just…needing a break.)

So. I’ve been trying to spin up a paranormal novel a la Sisters of the Moon or Charmed (or Dresden Filesy, for everyone else out there), and I’m also looking at plotting it out in a character-driven way rather than a plot-milestone-driven way, if that makes any sense. Which means that I’ve been making character bios for everyone first (rather than plot milestones) and that’s been pleasant and relaxing. Google image search rocks, basically.

    Seconding (thirding?) the yays!

Ha. Aw, now I’m all self-conscious. I was just sharing, I swear, not fishing for yays! *blushes*

    But thank you. 🙂

Can’t help it. I like magic and character bios! (I hope this book will be less painful than Pulchritude, which is awesome but I still haven’t finished because sad.)
