Writer Workshop October 14th, 2015

Those of you who also frequent Ana Mardoll’s Ramblings will find this somewhat familiar.  Here, as there, it was requested that there be a regular post to talk about writing projects (and other artwork-creation). Thus this post exists.

What are you working on? How are you feeling about it? What thoughts and/or snippets would you like to share? How does your activism work into your art? What tropes are you hoping to employ and/or avoid? Are there any questions you’d like to ask or frustrations you’d like to vent?  Writing workshop below!

Need help on two things for story I’m developing.

More details here but the short version is that I’m writing a vaguely Halloween-related story and (Thing 1) need afterlife related and assorted not of the living world things both good and bad to populate:
    a) Afterlife
    b) Invasion of living world
    b) Post-invasion living world

Good ones because I don’t want death==evil, but also and perhaps more importantly bad things because a portal between afterlife/spirit world and earth opening up (and staying open) is a horrible cataclysmic thing that kills off nearly all earthly life in the immediate area and is pretty bad for the wider world as well.

Thing 2 is that I’m looking for end of October beginning of November death holy days related flavor to add beyond, “The barrier between life and death is thin right now, let us commune with our dead ancestors,” since the Halloween-esque thing is supposed to be a bigger element than it currently is.

Halloween/All Saints Day/All Souls day, the semi-related Day of the Dead, and the semi-related Samhain are the holy days I know of at that time of year, but ritual, practice, habit, or whatever flavor from anything that even vaguely fits would be more than welcome.

I want to apply for Lambda Literary’s LGBTQ Writers’ Retreat but I dunno fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. And I only really have recent work to show them in poetry. Applications are open till the first week of January, but.
