Writer Workshop March 9th, 2016

(Posted by chris the cynic)

Those of you who also frequent Ana Mardoll’s Ramblings will find this somewhat familiar.  Here, as there, it was requested that there be a regular post to talk about writing projects (and other artwork-creation). Thus this post exists.

What are you working on? How are you feeling about it? What thoughts and/or snippets would you like to share? How does your activism work into your art? What tropes are you hoping to employ and/or avoid? Are there any questions you’d like to ask or frustrations you’d like to vent?  Writing workshop below!

Outlining. AAAAAAAAAAAAA. I have no idea what happens in this book. I have the vague idea of a genderbent, racebent Supernatural S1 premise, plus two other title characters that have to be introduced in the first book of four, and I know what happened to the murdered dad (this is resolved, sort of, in book one) and the missing mom (this is resolved, sort of, in book two), and I have a vague idea of how book four goes. But I don’t know any of the middle bits! And I only have three weeks till Camp NaNo, and I want a respectable outline before then, so I don’t fizzle out partway in!

I’m trying to revise a self-declared Mary Sue fanfic of mine to be more believable (though still wildly improbable), factually closer to canon, and, if possble, less problematic.* Not the noblest endeavor, but I loved my girls and the world I’d made for them, and still want to make them work.

*e.g. there’s a scene of magically-assisted seduction that I now recognize as rape. I need to make it non-magically consensual, framed negatively, or non-existent.
