Open Thread: Pets

(by chris the cynic)

Do you have any pets?  Have you ever?  Did you ever want to?  For any or all of the previous, what were they?  Are there any animals that you think should or shouldn’t be pets?  Do you have a dream pet?  (Fictional animals count.)  Do you have any thoughts on the topic of pets in general?

Anything else on the topic of pets.

[As a reminder, open thread prompts are meant to inspire conversation, not stifle it. Have no fear of going off topic for there is no off topic here.]

Not pets, but EU. I’m in the UK. I see a victory for xenophobia, a victory for “screw you I’ve got mine”, and a victory for lies. The EU was already in trouble, and the Great British Public has greased the slope and given it a hard push. There’s no point emigrating to the Netherlands, which I’d thought about: they have their own fascist idiots who are ready to take power.

I see no hope for things getting substantially better for the rest of my life.

We are going to get a pet lizard!

    Or maybe more than one?

Eventually several pets I think, tho perhaps mostly fish?

Do any of you have lizards or fish that you would recommend for or against for kids?

I am thinking we will get a bearded dragon because they should fairly low-maintenance and as snuggly as lizards get…

Also possibly considering birds in the future…

I’m considering getting a couple of companions for my semiferal tabby, since his adopted dad, my elderly ginger cat, died at the beginning of April. But, then again, semiferal, so how likely is he to just move out? He adores me; he’s very closely bonded and trusting, but I don’t know how adding other cats in might affect that.

I’d prefer to rehome older cats than kittens, so that might be easier on him. Or worse. Agh, decisions….
