Kasey Chambers We’re all gonna die someday
Credence Clearwater Revival Up Around the Bend
    The Eagles Take it easy
    Lucinda Holdsworth Supervillainy Sucks

When I need a long stretch of music The Last Waltz, full concert The Band.

I’ve been thinking for a while that I should put together a list of travel and road songs. “Take it Easy” “Up Around The Bend” “Against the Wind” “Born to Run” “Woodstock” “King of the Road” “Country Roads” and so forth.

Folk music is the only genre I categorically like. Favoritest singer: Gordon Bok. Other favorite bands/singers include Lee Murdock, Kathy Mattea, Pandora Celtica, Solas, and Jennifer Cutting’s Ocean Orchestra. Favorites of more ambiguous genre include the Burns Sisters and Donovan.

The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival is held this week in Hillsdale, NY, and I couldn’t get a ride there despite my best efforts and I can’t drive and I have never yet gotten to attend. *sulk*

It’s my birthday, I don’t have to feel guilt today.

Good philosophy. That’s what I say when eating sashimi on my birthday.

I like lyrics, so I like country and folk and hip hop but country is the only one I ever had much of a clue about.

    Also Rihanna.

And I have familiarity with certain musicals and one Thai children’s pop group from the 80s. And Billy Joel and to a lesser extent Jimmy Buffet. And SCA music and more broadly fillk and geek music, via friends…

Some artists I like include Frank Waln, Tricky Pixie, Kelliana… Oh, so Pagan music, I guess, but that’s not really a style/genre… Charlie Pride, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard… Dar Williams, Joan Baez, Fred Small… sassafras… (One of my favorite songs lately is their “Somebody Will.”)

Road and travel songs is a great category! I song I love that sort of fits in that category I’d “You’re My Home,” by Billy Joel. I always think of it when I drive on toll roads, or to visit someone I love, or both… Unfortunately it has a racial/ethnic slur in it.

Also I remembered Jo Dee Messina and Sugarland. At a recent point I made Chris watch a bunch of Jo Dee Messina videos, including “My Give-a-damn’s Busted.” She has a lot of upbeat songs…And “Heads Carolina, Tales California” is a great traveling song…

For Sugarland I particularly like “Down in Mississippi…” and “Baby Girl.”

I like lyrics too. I’m really frustrated when a song has lyrics that *should* be fully understandable to me but are drowned out by music.

    Happy birthday, Chris!

Here I’m catching up on podcasts and listening to themed playlists. Hard to find enough music when the theme is “Royal Navy in Space”.

Aaargh, yes, agreed. Metal and lots of rock has that problem for me. It’s better when it’s in a foreign language than mine, if the words aren’t clear.
