Open Thread: Procrastination

(by chris the cynic)

When you really need to get something done right now, what do you do instead?

[As a reminder, open thread prompts are meant to inspire conversation, not stifle it. Have no fear of going off topic for there is no off topic here.]

Often, if something is in dire need of doing, I scour the internet looking for some tidbit of information (in no way related to the thing in need of doing) that has little value. I will devote large amounts of work to this task.

Other times I dive into video games. The world isn’t going to save itself, you know.

Or, in the original Mirror’s Edge, I can’t just leave my sister at the mercy of shadowy forces.

The thing that’s less urgent but seems more fun. (Since I learned to have at least two things on the go, I can often make procrastination work for me.)

Endless research into tiny useless details. (My RPG party is crossing the USA by train in 1942. How long will it take? Ooh, I can find timetables!)
