Writer Workshop June 6th, 2017

(Posted by chris the cynic)

[Meta question, all of our writers have been rather silent of late, would it be better to movie this to a less frequent schedule?]

[Added] And I did this on the wrong day.  Open thread tomorrow, then. [/added]

Those of you who also frequent Ana Mardoll’s Ramblings will find this somewhat familiar.  Here, as there, it was requested that there be a regular post to talk about writing projects (and other artwork-creation). Thus this post exists.

What are you working on? How are you feeling about it? What thoughts and/or snippets would you like to share? How does your activism work into your art? What tropes are you hoping to employ and/or avoid? Are there any questions you’d like to ask or frustrations you’d like to vent?  Writing workshop below!

    I’m halfway through my collection of short stories about transgender people subverting prophecies a la Éowyn. It’s much slower going than I anticipated, partly because I want every word to be PERFECT.

    I’ve done an agender enby slaying a dragon, a bigender enby defeating a witch-queen, and a trans man killing the warlord who murdered his family. Next up is a trans woman who pulls a sword out of a stone. I love them all.

    Seems like there’s very little discussion, so posting anything gets a bit discouraging. :\ Unless one just has an update, or something. People rarely seem to respond to anything else. (And rarely even then.) Encouragement, advice, suggestions, any of that… tumbleweeds.

    @anamardoll,

    Sounds like the short story collection is going well! Looking forward to seeing the finished product. 🙂

    Ana: WOOHOO

    I am kicking, once again, at the “file off SPN’s serial numbers, cast queer ladies in the leading roles, plop the lot in a polytheistic landscape, and full speed ahead” concept. This should be entertaining.

    *hugs at all* I am unduly fond of serial number filed-off stuff. 🙂

    And in that particular case, it sounds like it will be basically unrecognizable. (In a good way!) Okay, same vague general idea. But most urban fantasy type stuff operates off of the same vague general idea, so far as I can tell.

    Besides, if it’s fun for you to write, that almost guarantees it’ll be fun for your audience to read.

    Heh, that reminds me of a funny quote. “Write what you love, because you will read it 37866412 times as part of the editing process.”
