Open Thread: Mid-Month Check In, March 2018

(by chris the cynic)

What have you been doing of late?  How are you?  Are you still alive?  So forth.

[As a reminder, open thread prompts are meant to inspire conversation, not stifle it. Have no fear of going off topic for there is no off topic here.]

I seem to be alive. The world still seems depressingly full of terrible, and knowing about it mostly makes me feel hopeless. Trying to ignore it all may not be the right thing to do, but I’m not sure what else to do. At least I can do some good at work.

On a more personal level, things are all right. I have a new kitty that I’m trying to introduce to my remaining older kitty, with mixed success. (And I’m going to have to new kitty proof the rest of my apartment because the new kitty is small and determined to get into everything.)

Still here. Busy mostly in a good way. Bosses at work think I’m wonderful (well, I am); working on a big 3d print order.

More money problems, as per usual. Turned out I’d missed a critical bill when tallying up what was needed to put the last crisis behind me, so I never really left it. I only thought I did. (In my defense, I only thought I’d kinda, sorta put it behind me anyway.)

I’ve been meaning to get back to my decons for ages. I decided a while ago that I would start them over rather than pick up where I left off. In spite of the “for ages” and “a while ago” this post, announcing the restarting of the Kim Possible one, is the first thing that I can show for all that.

On other things, I’m still very much intending to get back to making physical things, not just words (technically arrangements of pre-existing words.) There are various possible ways to go about that, the one that makes the most sense is arguably to get back into 3d modeling so I can order masters, make molds (I have the materials), and start casting (ditto on materials).

While getting back into 3d modeling on computer is entirely on me, where was it you said was good (costwise) for getting things printed, Firedrake?

I’m doing SCIENCE and I’m still alive

Common cold from hell, though. Progressing on creative work, slowly, and progressing on apartment cleaning, more slowly.

Chris, 3dhubs (.com) is the service I use – it’s a lot cheaper than shapeways, and you’re dealing with individuals who may even be local to you.
